About the artist
James Allen is a self tought artist based in Deville, Louisiana, whose practice is grounded in a lifelong love of painting and the tactile process of making. Working primarily with acrylic paint, he approaches each painting as an intimate dialogue between color, form, and the human hand.At the core of Allen’s work is an enduring fascination with color—its emotional resonance, its capacity to shift with light and context, and its power to communicate beyond language. He treats color as both subject and structure, using it to construct atmospheres that invite quiet reflection as well as moments of visual intensity. Through deliberate layering, blending, and contrast, he seeks to create surfaces that feel alive, responsive, and continually unfolding to the viewer’s gaze.Equally important to his practice is the physical act of making. The direct contact between hand, brush, pigment, and surface is central to his artistic identity. Allen values the evidence of the human touch in his work: the visible brushstroke, the subtle imperfections, and the traces of revision that remain within each piece. These marks serve as a record of time spent in the studio and as a testament to the sincerity and care invested in each painting.Guided by a genuine affection for the medium itself, James Allen’s paintings celebrate the simple yet profound pleasure of creating. His work invites viewers to experience color not only as something seen, but as something felt—an encounter shaped by attention, presence, and the quiet joy of making things by hand.
The story behind my art work
It all started on Amazon one day I was looking for something and I seen a sale on acrylic paint so I bought some.little did I know I would be good at it. That was right after a custody battle with the state over my youngest son who had failure to thrive from birth. After winning the case I started painting it helped me clear my mind. If you can't afford to buy my art please pray for my son and family. Thank you and God bless you
